The Thyroid Support Group evolved out of misdiagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism in 1997.  The non-profit organisation is now almost 14 years old.  Advising people all over the world.  All e-mail advice is free.  Consultations, thyroid testing, full hormone testing and Bodyscan MOT's for a whole body check up are available at low cost.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

Physical: Exhaustion, falling asleep - wanting to go to sleep all the time, weight gain. Puffiness of:  eyes, face, hands, feet, ankles. Pain in: head, migraines, lower back pain, neck pain, muscle pain and joints aching.  Cramps, pins and needles Skin: dry, flaky, course patches, sallow in colour, pallor: flushed/ normal, palms and hands red and burning, itchy hands and feet and skin generally Nails:  brittle, flake off, soft   slow growing, thick toenails. Deafness, over sensitive hearing, noises in ears.  Whistling in ears, aversion to loud noise.  Numbness in:  toes, fingers, arms, legs, back, head, (top and back) Visual disturbances: blurring, poor focusing, dry eyes, gritty eyes, sore eyes, itchy eyes, heavy (hooded) eyelids, yellow bumps on eyes.  Digestive problems:  Loss of appetite, food sensitivity, food allergies, wheat intolerance, problems with carbohydrate metabolism, alcohol intolerance, constipation diarrhoea, poor food absorption, pain in liver area, gassy tummy, lots of wind.  Hair:  loss, thinness, loss of outer third of eyebrows, lank, greasy, flat to head (no body), loss of under arm hair and pubic hair, no shine - dull   falling out.  Menstrual disorders:  heavy periods, painful periods, loss of periods, irregular periods infertility   light scant periods   loss of sex drive. Slow movements, unable to walk far, low energy, slow speech.  Blood pressure: high or low or normal.  Dizziness, fainting feeling, palpitations, light sensitive, sun sensitive, balance problems.  Intolerance of heat and cold, prone to overheating and hot flushes (flashes), feet cold, unable to get warm even with jumpers on. Insomnia.  Nightmares, unable to sleep deeply and wake refreshed, (this can be liver).

Mental:  Panic attacks, poor memory especially short term, concentration poor, word confusion noises and voices in the head, hallucinations, claustrophobia, phobias, fearfulness, don’t want to go out.  Emotions:  cry easily mood swings unable to be rational, angry, think everyone’s against you.  Depressed, nervous, suspicion of others motives, lack of confidence, wanting to be alone.

AFFILIATED DISEASES

Diabetes; depression, heart problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, problems with joints, teeth, and bones.  Aching and wasting muscles.  Eye disease.  Hysterectomy, infertility, digestive and colon cancer, other cancers, insanity, Alzheimer’s Disease; dementia.  Circulation problems.  Liver cancer.  Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.   SAD  Lupus.

Hypo-adrenalism  (low adrenals)

There are some general guidelines for some of the symptoms you may have. These are the runs, often late afternoon/evening this may be low adrenals.  Heavy periods are often low adrenals.  Light/non-existent periods may be thyroid.  Constipation may also be thyroid.  Headaches can be both.  Back pain can be both, however if it is in the kidney region it may be adrenals, low thyroid may cause neck pain. Pain at the base of the spine is usually low thyroid. Thirst can be thyroid/adrenals.  Diabetes can be thyroid/adrenals.  Poor sleeping patterns can be both thyroid and adrenals.  Exhaustion can be low adrenals caused by a virus, foods or parasites, or high chemicals from body products.
