The objective of the Thyroid Support Group is to help people to help themselves through education, support and information. True belief comes from knowledge; all else is a false illusion.
The location of the thyroid is just below where the Adam's apple is usually located in the neck. It is a butterfly shaped gland that sits across our windpipe. A delicate balance of foods, emotions and other hormones controls the thyroid. When our thyroids fail or decrease the reasons are simple, they are usually trauma, aging, stress, injury, parasites, pollution, emotions, and poor foods.
A SIMPLE TEST is to take your temperature before rising, if it is a degree below or more then you may be hypothyroid. Set your thermometer to neutral the night before. Upon waking place it under your armpit for ten minutes before rising, (it does take that long), if it is under 97.8F/37C you may be hypothyroid, however this may be an indication that you could also/or be hypo adrenal. Your pottering around pulse should be around 80 - 84 beats per minute; a lowered pulse rate may also be a sign of hypothyroidism. The resting pulse varies. If you are on Thyroxine/Synthroid and your pulse goes over 90 beats per minute you may be toxic. This can happen is you do not increase the dose slowly (25mcgs) every 4 days. Keep a diary of these and your symptoms. It also helps to keep a note of what you eat and keep a weekly lifestyle diary.
DIET AND HORMONES
Diet plays a large part in the illness. Hypothyroids find it hard to digest wheat and other grains effectively. There is often growth hormone and cortisol reduction. The wheat protein interferes with the thyroid protein. Wheat contains gluten one of the glue foods, which can cause malabsorption of nutrients. Always be food allergy and intolerance tested. Certain foods suit different blood groups. Eating incorrect foods can cause adrenal exhaustion. iving up wheat usually gives a person more energy. You can be tested for intolerance and or allergy to foods using our hair analysis.
SUPPLEMENTS
Many supplements are just too strong for the body, they can be toxic stressing the lymph. Once tested you should know which supplements you require. These can be chemical allopathic medicine. Natural food source. Vitamins etc. Nothing compares with a good diet. The golden rules are - buy it raw and make it your self. If it is factory made it is best to avoid it.
OTHER HORMONES
These are vital for thyroid metabolism. No amount of thyroid in the blood will catalyse it into the cells without cortisol, progesterone, testosterone, pregnenolone, DHEA and oestrogen’s. You need them all to be balanced to make the metabolic system work properly. It is best to have a total hormone test.
If your doctor says you only need 25mcgs of Thyroxine/Synthroid and you feel ill taking such low dose, ask for a review. The adult average daily dose is 150mcgs of T4, which is the primary thyroid hormone. T4 converts into T3 using liver utilisation. Diet is very important for this function. You should not treat a blood test, each person is different in their requirements. If your doctor is unsympathetic, or you do not wish to take synthetic hormones, or perhaps you feel unwell taking them, you can supplement with natural thyroid.
TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) reduces usually to around 0.003 when you take thyroid supplements. The pituitary does not need to make it as the supplements reduce demand. Getting the T4 balance right should boost the iodine levels to normal thyroid function. TSH is a good indicator of low thyroid when elevated, but this test does not show correct Free T4 levels (FT4).
Thyroid heath is all about getting the balance right for you. This is a multi function healing process where lifestyle, diet and knowledge about yourself are important. Once on thyroid therapy it may take around 6 months to see a real difference, and 2 years for best of health.
WARNING: do not mix (or guess at doses) of Thyroxine/Synthroid, kelp and food state thyroid, always be tested first.
